Approached in early 2016, Ark were asked to attend a meeting to discuss a memorial window for the late Director of Music, Andrew Proverb. It was in this meeting that we learnt of this man’s dedication to his work, his music and his students. He used to teach the students how to play a multiple of instruments and wrote his own music as well. He was a dearly loved member of staff and those at the school felt it was right to dedicate something to him.

We discussed many designs for the window but it was agreed that the window should show some of the aspects of the surrounding stained glass, but in a more contemporary style. This is done with the grid work in the background, done in a thicker lead, and the copying of the inscription in the lower  half of the window. It should also show the piano, which he played all the time, it should show a manuscript he wrote and it was also decided, as he was a cheeky fellow and had a love for the Walsall Football Club, that the window should show the colours of the football team – red and blue.

The way we subtly included this was through the bluebird, also a song played at his funeral. With the bluebird representing that song and the colour blue, the red cardinal in the lower right hand corner represents the red colour of Walsall Football Club.

We were very honoured to be included in the production of this memorial window for such a worthy individual.
