As part of our continued work at Southampton Row, London, Ark were asked to undertake the conservation of a barrel vault ceiling light.

The frame was in good condition with minimal repairs to the the structure, however it needed to be sand blasted to remove the rust and allow us to get a better look at any damage that would need repairing. Once all the repairs were done the frames were powder coated and painted black.

All the curved panels needed to be stripped, the glass cleaned where possible and new glass cut where needed. Each panel was made flat and then, while cemented, placed on our handmade moulds to create the appropriate curve. Once the cement dries, the panels retain this curve.

Each panel was put into the frame at our studio to check placement and curve before being packed away for delivery to site. Each frame alone  weighed 80 kilos! The guys earned their cup of tea that day.
