Kempe Stained Glass Painting
Being on and off this copy of a Kempe window of St George & the Dragon for the last two months, it is finally time to hand this over to be leaded. Can’t wait to see this complete and hanging proudly in the studio. How will it compare to the original? We’ll soon find out.
Also the Studio has been busy taking all the windows out from St Mary’s Church in Hay on Wye. They will all be restored and the inscription ‘Fullness of Joy’ will also be repainted. It’s all part of the next stage of restoration for this 12th century church which has undergone a lot over the years to keep it going this long.
All the windows are arched with beautiful shades of blue and green quarries. We will be strengthening the windows and replacing the broken pieces.
Taken on our lightbox, you can see the restoration needed and the break in the inscription. it’s very rewarding to be able to repair these windows and see them put back looking as they should do.
The Studio has also been working on St Michael’s and all Angels Church in Dewsall. This church, thought to date back to the 13th or 14th century, was threatened with closure, but thanks to the hard work of locals will remain open and we are very happy to have been asked to help with the restoration of this local church.
